Cryptic Boards by The Lost Artist

“Throughout my years at university I have learnt how illustration is used to communicate unspoken words. Imagery is used to connect us all no matter where we are from or who we are. My cryptic skateboards originally started out as surrealistic narrative story boards. Each design influenced by experiences I encountered symbolically not literally. Illustration allows me to temper with reality to make something complex seem not that surreal. Literal representations can be found in the footprints of the designs themselves, whereby the background represents a past or history and the foreground expresses the now, the living.”

The Lost Artist based these three boards on individuals she lived with in her first year of university. Each depicting a particular moment in their lives Ethan, Guy and Matt become immortalised through The Lost Artist’s unique creative expression. Sharing feelings until sun rise, opening eyes to new artistic perspectives, and true friendship are ideas which attached to each individual inspired the design of these boards. And as for the boards themselves…

“Skateboarding is a community based sport and connects people through art, fashion and music. The Skateboard itself I find engaging as a limited canvas but one with so much potential. The skateboard is a symbolic object, a shout out as if to say I am free, I belong, I am not afraid to express! I am ME!”
